Tag Archive: Richard Sherman

Man the energy is electric, in my apartment, because my favorite day of the year is here:  Super Bowl Sunday!  I have been in long favor of making this day a holiday and making the day after an off day for the country, but sadly enough until we get Peyton Manning or Tom Brady to become President it won’t happen.  Now everyone remember after today, please still keep getting together with your friends to do something.  Studies have shown (right here it’s real) that after football season fans go through a bit of depression and sluggishness.  Enough of the public service announcement on to the keys to unlock the Lombardi trophy.

*Disclaimer*  I dislike the Seahawks, because I’m a 49er fan (granted I do like Beast Mode, Russell “Last Name” Wilson, and The LOB, ok I kinda like the team just have to hate them because of fandom), and I’m not a Peyton Manning fan at all, to much credit for not enough playoff wins (before this season).  So I have no real bias unlike last week (I picked the 49ers!).  *Disclaimer*

* Denver Offense Key: Make the Seahawks Safeties have a bad game

The key for this offense will be how Peyton can minimize the effect of the LOB’s safeties.  I know for the last two weeks we have spoke about Richard Sherman and how he is the greatest, but he is only so great because his safeties (Thomas and Chancellor).  They are the best in the League.  Can Peyton confuse Thomas in single high safety formations (which they run a lot).  How much can he get the safeties to come and help in the run game to set up play action.  Chancellor has shut down 2 top 5 Tight Ends (Jimmy Graham and Vernon Davis) in the playoffs, if Chancellor can go 3 for 3 by stopping Julius Thomas it will hurt Peyton and the offense.  So Peyton has to move these safeties and create match ups he can exploit to free WRs or at least make the reads difficult for Thomas and Chancellor.

* Seattle Offense Key:  Feed the Seahawks WRs Skittles and abuse Champ Bailey

It hurts to say this but you have to make Champ Bailey pay.  It’s no way in hell the Broncos should let Lynch go off, if they do the game is already over.  If they stop Lynch the Seahawks need an answer, enter Harvin, Tate, Baldwin, and Kearse.  These WRs need to go Torrey Smith on Champ Bailey (Here is what I’m talking about).  Last year we saw Bailey can’t keep up with speedy WRs anymore and his time off this year with injuries doesn’t help that.  You have to get the Broncos in man 2 man looks with little safety help and exploit it.  You may only see that look 7-10 times in the game and for the Seahawks to win they have to make them pay at least half of the time they see that look.

*Denver Defense Key:  Don’t let a bit player become a star

You know you have to stop “Beast Mode” Lynch, you know you have to keep “Short Stack” Wilson in the pocket and not let him turn into Russell “Houdini Tarkenton” Wilson.  What will cost you is if you let a role player beat you, ala Desmond Howard (Super Bowl XXXI), or Timmy Smith (Super Bowl XXII).  Keep the role player just that “role players”, no rising stars allowed.  The Seahawks Offense is not as dangerous as other offenses the Broncos have faced, so don’t take them lightly.  If I had to choose who would be the player to step for the Seahawks I would say it would be Baldwin with the extra attention Harvin will get.

*Seattle Defense Key:  Let Peyton be Peyton

I know I have lost a lot of you with this one.  Or I might have lost all creditability now, but hear me out.  We all know the thought of Peyton choking during big games, but when I say let Peyton be Peyton I mean pressure Peyton to make quick decisions, or errant throws.  Take advantage of Peyton’s hate of a clustered pockets by getting pressure up the middle.  Now it wont effect Peyton in the 1st-3rd quarters, but if the game is close down the stretch you will start seeing the effects of that pressure.  When it’s close in big games Peyton has a tendency to get ultra conservative which you can use to your advantage and jump a route ala Tracy Porter.

So there you have it.  Lets see what happens at 6:25pm.  I’m choosing the Denver Broncos to win, because I just think with John Elway’s mentoring and confidence it is Peyton Manning’s year and he wont show the old Peyton attributes.

The best thing that could happen is if Richard Sherman jumps a route and takes it to the house!  OMG!!! We might get another Promo about Peyton throwing “ducks”.  Or if Richard Sherman jumps a route and misses a badly thrown “duck” and the Broncos score the game winner.  Either way “Are We Ready For The End of Football…  This Year”.

NFC Championship Game

I want to start off by saying that I am biased.  I’m a die hard 49er fan through and through, and that I dislike the Seahawks (but I admit I’m starting to like them more and more being a follower of a sport and not a fanatic).  I dislike the Seahawks only because of Pete Carroll.  I thought the way he left USC was terrible, but those are the brakes, and even now how he has changed his coaching style and influenced his players is winning me over.  With all that being said, I’m officially nervous as crap for the game.

I’m nervous, not because of the “12th Man”, not because of the way we have been dominated in Seattle, not even because of the talent Seattle has.  I’m nervous because of the 2nd Coming JIM HARBAUGH.  If you have read anything on this site you know I think Harbaugh is the second best coach in the league behind Empreror Bill Palpatine Belicheck.  So why the worry?  Well I worry because I think Harbaugh will not feature Frank Gore like he should.  He has been limiting Gore all year so he would be fresh for these games.  Harbaugh has been smart enough to know he didn’t need Gore to run 20+ times in the regular season to win.  When Gore carries the ball 20+ in a game in the last 2 years the 49ers are 12-1, when carrying under 20 times a game 15-8, including 19 carries in the Super Bowl (when everyone thought they should have ran Gore in the red zone during the final drive).  Now it’s time to unleash Gore.  Harbaugh scares me too because he has a bit of Don Shula in him, where he has fallen in love with his star QB ala Shula and Marino.  Harbaugh might try to feature Kaepernick to show the world and doubters (Joe Montana) that Kaepernick can make plays totally from the pocket with precision and accuracy, just like last year in the Falcons game.  That is not how you beat the Seahawks.

If your Seattle you should feel confident that you are playing at home with a team you have dominated at home.  Even with the subpar play of Russell Wilson (and everyone back off the man, he has no WRs, Kaepernick with no Crabtree subpar, Luck without Wayne subpar.  Young QBs need a go-to-guy in the line up to make them comfortable and better) you have to feel great that you know your guy can win the game down the stretch with either his legs and arm.  The key for Seattle will have to be one of the WRs/TEs stepping up and making plays.  What no Beast Mode?  You will need that too, but Lynch gets his yards vs the 49ers when they only have 6 in the box.  If a WR can become a threat to keep the safeties and outside linebackers honest Lynch will have lanes and then the Seahawks are tough to beat.  Also Carroll doesn’t have to out coach Harbaugh to win (where Harbaugh has to out coach Carroll to win), but Carroll has to make sure he doesn’t make a coaching mistake (look at last years Divisional Playoff game vs the Falcons.  Carroll made a few questionable coaching decisions, Hell “Big Play Ray” wrote an article about it “Pete Carroll Is Who We Though He Is”) that will cost them a game.

I know this will be a beat’em up game.  This plays in both teams hands, the question is who will make THE PLAY!  My homer attitude is going 49ers all the way, but the follower in me has to be honest and pick the…  THE 49ers to win it.  I feel like it is our time and not only that, I think the refs will call more Pass Interference or Holding calls than usual against the grab happy Seahawks ( I though the league got rid of the Belicheck way, of holding secondary, to favor Manning’s Colts?).  I know I know, but this begins a Dynasty like no other #QuestforSix!!!

From week to week I will be looking at a matchup that I consider the game of the week. This week I’m looking at 49ers @ Seahawks (or Forty-Whiners @ the She-hawks) In a matchup of two teams that not only division rivals, but both are Super Bowl contenders as well.

49ers advantage: With how dominant the Kaepernick-Boldin combination was last week look for Seattle to put Sherman on Boldin and double Davis.  Which will then open up the read option for the 49ers and allow Kaepernick to run wild.

Seahawks advantage: To just say the 12th man would be to easy.  Beast Mode (Lynch) has ran for over 100 yds on the 49ers in two of the last three match ups.  With the subpar performance Lynch (17 car. 43 yds) had last week he’ll have them skittles ready.  Therefore, allowing Russell “last name” Wilson to go deep off of play action.

Who will win and why:  This game will be a tougher matchup than the 42-13 beatdown the Seahawks handed the Niners at the end of last season.  However, Seattle is strong and somewhat dominant at home; Wilson has never last a home game as the starter.  Plus Wilson doesn’t make many mistakes, and you’d have to assume Lynch continues his success against the 49ers defense.

Seattle Wins 28-17

Why is the smallest position in football talk the most?  Darrelle Revis and Richard Sherman have this twitter war about who’s the best corner in the league.  Of course ESPN loves it!  But notice corners and receivers do the most talking.  From The Playmaker (Michael Irving) to T.O., even PrimeTime, to DeAngelo Hall.  Is being on the outside make you king of your own football Universe?

Notice quarterbacks don’t say anything (you make get Jay Cutler vs Philip Rivers beef, or a very confident Tom Brady) and they have every right to talk.  They are steady trying to prove themselves as an elite. Even guys on the line of scrimmage going thru the trenches have a right, because they maul each other every play.  Yet corners and receivers have this swag (imaginary or real) about them as if their “god” of football.  But some receivers are not even physical. Some receivers don’t block.  Some receivers only run one route (Randy Moss). So dare I say some receivers aren’t really football players?

You can make the same case for Corners.  Some of them don’t play the run, refuse to get off blocks, whiff on easy tackles (Asaunte Samuels), we are not going to mention bad technique or blowing coverage because you bite on a underneath route.  Imagine if other positions were allowed the luxury of these mistakes?  Oh yeah they aren’t because they would get benched.  Sad thing is most corners are overrated like Revis (yeah I said it).

If your team didn’t win the Super Bowl then STOP TALKING!  Although I’m with Sherman on this topic.  Sherman has 12 int in two seasons while Revis 16 ints in 6 seasons, and I’m sorry, but Revis has been acting like a diva lately.  Did he really expect the Jets to call him? After this ninja was nowhere to be found 2yrs ago from holding out.  To quote Richard Sherman “You mad brah!”   Sherman might be running his mouth like a girl but they all suffer from little man syndrome or the “I’m insecure so I need to make myself feel better”. The people with arguably the biggest Hero, or Goat possibility (Chris Culliver in the Super Bowl) need to learn to stop talking SHIT! And just play the game.  What do you think?
