Man the energy is electric, in my apartment, because my favorite day of the year is here:  Super Bowl Sunday!  I have been in long favor of making this day a holiday and making the day after an off day for the country, but sadly enough until we get Peyton Manning or Tom Brady to become President it won’t happen.  Now everyone remember after today, please still keep getting together with your friends to do something.  Studies have shown (right here it’s real) that after football season fans go through a bit of depression and sluggishness.  Enough of the public service announcement on to the keys to unlock the Lombardi trophy.

*Disclaimer*  I dislike the Seahawks, because I’m a 49er fan (granted I do like Beast Mode, Russell “Last Name” Wilson, and The LOB, ok I kinda like the team just have to hate them because of fandom), and I’m not a Peyton Manning fan at all, to much credit for not enough playoff wins (before this season).  So I have no real bias unlike last week (I picked the 49ers!).  *Disclaimer*

* Denver Offense Key: Make the Seahawks Safeties have a bad game

The key for this offense will be how Peyton can minimize the effect of the LOB’s safeties.  I know for the last two weeks we have spoke about Richard Sherman and how he is the greatest, but he is only so great because his safeties (Thomas and Chancellor).  They are the best in the League.  Can Peyton confuse Thomas in single high safety formations (which they run a lot).  How much can he get the safeties to come and help in the run game to set up play action.  Chancellor has shut down 2 top 5 Tight Ends (Jimmy Graham and Vernon Davis) in the playoffs, if Chancellor can go 3 for 3 by stopping Julius Thomas it will hurt Peyton and the offense.  So Peyton has to move these safeties and create match ups he can exploit to free WRs or at least make the reads difficult for Thomas and Chancellor.

* Seattle Offense Key:  Feed the Seahawks WRs Skittles and abuse Champ Bailey

It hurts to say this but you have to make Champ Bailey pay.  It’s no way in hell the Broncos should let Lynch go off, if they do the game is already over.  If they stop Lynch the Seahawks need an answer, enter Harvin, Tate, Baldwin, and Kearse.  These WRs need to go Torrey Smith on Champ Bailey (Here is what I’m talking about).  Last year we saw Bailey can’t keep up with speedy WRs anymore and his time off this year with injuries doesn’t help that.  You have to get the Broncos in man 2 man looks with little safety help and exploit it.  You may only see that look 7-10 times in the game and for the Seahawks to win they have to make them pay at least half of the time they see that look.

*Denver Defense Key:  Don’t let a bit player become a star

You know you have to stop “Beast Mode” Lynch, you know you have to keep “Short Stack” Wilson in the pocket and not let him turn into Russell “Houdini Tarkenton” Wilson.  What will cost you is if you let a role player beat you, ala Desmond Howard (Super Bowl XXXI), or Timmy Smith (Super Bowl XXII).  Keep the role player just that “role players”, no rising stars allowed.  The Seahawks Offense is not as dangerous as other offenses the Broncos have faced, so don’t take them lightly.  If I had to choose who would be the player to step for the Seahawks I would say it would be Baldwin with the extra attention Harvin will get.

*Seattle Defense Key:  Let Peyton be Peyton

I know I have lost a lot of you with this one.  Or I might have lost all creditability now, but hear me out.  We all know the thought of Peyton choking during big games, but when I say let Peyton be Peyton I mean pressure Peyton to make quick decisions, or errant throws.  Take advantage of Peyton’s hate of a clustered pockets by getting pressure up the middle.  Now it wont effect Peyton in the 1st-3rd quarters, but if the game is close down the stretch you will start seeing the effects of that pressure.  When it’s close in big games Peyton has a tendency to get ultra conservative which you can use to your advantage and jump a route ala Tracy Porter.

So there you have it.  Lets see what happens at 6:25pm.  I’m choosing the Denver Broncos to win, because I just think with John Elway’s mentoring and confidence it is Peyton Manning’s year and he wont show the old Peyton attributes.

The best thing that could happen is if Richard Sherman jumps a route and takes it to the house!  OMG!!! We might get another Promo about Peyton throwing “ducks”.  Or if Richard Sherman jumps a route and misses a badly thrown “duck” and the Broncos score the game winner.  Either way “Are We Ready For The End of Football…  This Year”.

As the Denver Broncos start the real season this weekend (We know the regular season means nothing to Peyton) the Broncos and Peyton are going for a mythical journey to capture the franchises 3rd championship.  So naturally all eyes are on the hero #18.  The Broncos changed their future from the disciple (Tebow) to one of the football gods in Peyton Manning.  Leading me to say out loud What Would Peyton Do?

The Future Hall of Famer has been here before plenty of times actually, with a 9-11 playoff record including 8 one and done.  Peyton has a chance to conquer some demons, gods, and the unexpected so to speak.  First challenge the Demon, the power of the SUPER BOLO TIE CHARGERS.  A lot of analysis are picking the Chargers to win this game.  The Chargers are a current division foe that has eliminated Peyton several times (0-2 vs. Chargers in playoffs) while with the Colts.  The Chargers are hot and facing Denver coming off a bye, sounds like the Ravens of last year.

Second the other god, with a victory Peyton will play his greatest foe, Football’s greatest god Tom Brady, and the Patriots.  We all know of the history of these two competitors.  We also know Brady’s 3 rings to Peyton’s 1, or that Peyton is 1-2 vs. the Patriots in the playoffs.  If Peyton can find the Herculean strength to conquer 2 of his biggest adversaries the third one is the greatest of all.

Final adversary the Elements, and the Unexpected.  By elements I mean COLD WINDY WEATHER, and the unexpected NFC opponent.  The Super Bowl is in NY/NJ in the cold weather.  Peyton has played some of his worse games in cold weather (8-13 in games with temperature under 40 at kick off).  Since Peyton has returned from neck surgery it is noticeable that Peyton is uncomfortable in the cold weather or rather windy cold games.  Not to mention the three teams left in the NFC are huge defensive teams (Legion of Boom Seahawks, 49ers, and Panthers) and none of them seem to have Rex Grossman as their starting Quarterback.

Peyton has a huge football world to conquer.  Is it fair to say that a loss vs. the Chargers, Patriots, or the NFC representative would tarnish Peyton’s legacy?  So I say out loud again WHAT WOULD PEYTON DO?  Or should I say WHAT SHOULD PEYTON DO?  Only answer is Ascend and WIN!

P.S.  UNSPORTSMENMIC is BACK!

A lot has been made of the defending NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers.  A lot of the MAKING has been in my face.  Since the two game losing streak I have heard it from every NFL fan not a 49er.  All the return trash talk is my fault, because last year I told everybody how great the 49ers are.  How NO-BODY! Has it better than us.  How our parts are the best in the league.  Also how we have the 2nd best coach in the league, I used to make jokes that if Belichick was Emperor Palpatine, Harbaugh was Yoda.  Now the if I asked “Who has it better than us?” you can reply “3/4th of the LEAGUE!”  So what’s wrong and how do we fix the Gold Rush?

Problem:  Rushing game- It starts just with that, the RUSH-ing game.  Now I know its very easy to say run the ball, better or more efficiently, but have you read anything on this site?  In three games the 49ers have rushed for 305 yards, that’s about 101.5 a game.  Last year by Week 3 the 49ers had rushed for 423, that’s about 141yds a game.  So you can see that the rushing total and average yards vastly different.  The thing is that the 49ers have not rushed the ball less (77 attempts in ’13 and 79 attempts in ’12) its the effectiveness of the running game.

Solution:  Harbaugh and the 49ers need to get back to the creative running game that was on display when Alex Smith was under center.  They ran a power heavy run style with a West Coast twist.  Remember the sets of Far and Near, off set I-Formations, running the same play from numerous formations, and using play action out of run sets to open up the pass?  Well where has that been in the first 3 games?  NO-WHERE! Coaching staff has fallen in love with Kaepernick arm strength and the read option.  The 49ers got an up close and personal mirror image of the team they used to be last week with the Colts. We haven’t seen that team since the 2012 regular season.  Get back to the creativity of the running game.

Problem: Passing game-  Let it be said “Seattle Seahawks Exposed the 49ers passing game!”  They showed the world that NO-BODY on our team except Davis and Boldin can beat man coverage.  So now we will see every game; every team run, man to man, bump and run coverage, with a single safety high, with a cover 1 scheme.  Thus putting everyone else in the box to stop the run.

Solution:  Before the break out of Kaepernick last year, the word was the 49ers had no one on the outside that could win in man to man situations.  So everybody game planned to just stop Vernon Davis.  Crabtree was hindered by Alex Smith so even if he did win man to man match ups Smith was reluctant to the throw the ball his way (sorry Dwayne Bowe it will be a long season).  So to help that situation, you saw overloaded line formations showing run, but running play action to expose Corners peeking and move safeties.  Also the bunch formation makes it hard to bump and run and sometimes confuses corners on who to pick up.  Also putting one WR (preferably Davis or Boldin)  on one side by themselves, with 3 WR on the other side to promote an one on one situation, and if the safety cheats to help you have 3 WR on the other side getting free releases on one on one opportunities.

Problem:  Defense is not creating turnovers-  The 49er Defense has created a lot of turnover and if has been with its personnel.  Losing NT and safety to free agency, and players to injury, has changed what the defense used to be.  This is no excuse, because every team has roster turnover.  But the outlook is no better going forward, with Aldon #WishHeWasMoreCharlesHaley Smith seeking help, Patrick Willis nursing a leg/groin/hamstring injury, Nnmadi Asomugha injur…  Honestly he has been playing like a bum and I can’t take myself serious writing him as a key loss, and Eric Reid battling through being a rookie in the National Football League.

Solution:  Get back to the fundamentals, with all the changes the biggest concern is the lack of tackling.  In both the Seattle and Indianapolis losses terrible tackling plagued the team.  The 49ers were one of the most sure tackling defenses in the league.  Look at Reggie Wayne break like 3 to 4 tackles on a 3rd and long last week to see how the tackling has gotten terrible.  If we start tackling better and getting our offense more chances to score which forces our opponents offense to press and that creates…  TurnOvers!

Problem:  Kaepernick turnovers-  It’s plain and simple, WR can’t get open, and the running game hasn’t protected him.  So naturally Kaepernick is forced to try and make plays by relying to heavily on his arm strength.  Watching the game you can see a lot of balls get away from him, that is usually of symptom of bad mechanics.  His bad mechanics are coming from indecisiveness.  When the timer in his head goes off to get rid of the ball he can’t because no one is open so now he is in a fire drill (when all players break off their routes to get open) and that creates forced passes or throws into coverage sometimes.  One thing about the Alex Smith days, Smith would take the sack and live to fight another down, with the help of the 49er defense.

Solution:  Harbaugh has committed the Cardinal Coaching sin, no not having your mistress ride on the back of your motorcycle, but falling in love with his Player’s Talent.  Ask Don Shula what one of his biggest mistakes was?  Loving Dan Marino’s arm too much that he never built the proper team around him.  Well Harbaugh has fallen in love with Kaepernick’s ability and has put a lot on him.  He has changed his offensive strategy to fit the strengths of Kaepernick, instead running his philosophy and using Kaepernick’s strengths to transcend the offense to another level.

Solution:  Just a bonus for everyone out there especially 49ers who are hitting the panic button, we will get healthier soon and see the return of Mario Manningham, Crabtree will not be the same player immediately but getting him back can help with teams keying on Boldin.  Also we might get a Marcus Lattimore appearance later in the year which could help with fresh legs.  Lets not forget the chance of a trade to help, we do have a pile of draft picks.

Basically all the 49ers ills can be fixed easily by going back to basics.  A semi conservative offense that lets the Defense keep us in games while we grind away at the competition.  Somewhere between week 10 last year til now the 49ers have slowly lost their way.  Hopefully two blow outs in a row will bring Harbaugh and Co, back on the right track.  With that being said I fully expect the 49ers to be 1-3 by next week this time, because the Rams play us tough and without Davis and Willis at least 90% I don’t think the 49ers can win it.  So while everyone is hitting the panic button next week I promise you will see a return to the elite 49ers and things being turned around.

NFC NFL Predictions

By: Raymond “Big Play” Miller @BpRunSportsmenm (BP)

By: Jason “Big J” Allen @UnSportsMenBigJ (Jay)

By: Maurice “Cool Reece” @CR_Unsportsmen (CR)

It’s a new start to the NFL season, where most teams have championship aspirations.  The UnSportsMenMic have decided to give our predictions and preview the upcoming season.

NFC EAST

BP: Cowboys Giants Redskins Eagles-

Romo isn’t clutch, but M. Kiffin is.  Giants start out hot, but cool off at the end.  RG3 stays healthy, but lack of a preseason hurts him.  Eagles have a high octane O but there D struggles so they finish in Last sorry CR, #KellyAintJimmy.

JAY: Washington Giants Eagles Cowboys-

In RG Thriller I trust, despite the racist name, Fletcher will hold down the defense enough.  I think the Giants bounce back sorta, but fall short of the playoffs.  Eagles are still a process and I don’t trust the Kelly offense yet.  Finally the bottom falls out for the Cowboys and Romo gets destroyed in the Media for the contract, but yet he will have his best statistical season.

CR: This division is the hardest to pick from because every year a different team wins the division.  Vick and RG3 might get hurt cause they don’t like to slide.  The Giants are always inconsistent.  The Cowboys are a ball of confusion because they are probably the most talented but never live up to it.  So let’s just say one NFC East team will make it.

JAY:  That’s a cop out CR we know 1 team has to come out of the NFC East, just go head and pick the Eagles cause we know you want to.

NFC North

BP:  Bears Packers Lions Vikings-

Tough division to call for me because I trust the Bears D, but don’t trust Cutler.  Trust ARod, but don’t trust Green Bay Defense.  Lions can go either way, and shoot Vikings made playoffs last year.

JAY:  Lions Packers Bears Vikings-

I know this is a shock because of how much I hate the discipline on the Lions, but I think last year was a wake up and Bush and Broyles will settle the Offense.  The People’s Champ average line and average Defense is not enough to overcome.  Marc Trestman experiment will be rocky at first, and I can see Marshall cracking.  Christian Ponder is to blame!

CR:  Packers Detroit Chicago Minnesota-

I have Green Bay winning the division, while Detroit barely makes it in.  Leaving Chicago and Minnesota at home. I believe Peterson on that HGH by the way and who knows what Chicago gonna bring.

NFC South

BP:  Saints Falcons Panthers Bucs-

Saints and Falcons will battle to the end, I really like the Panthers as they could be a dark horse, and Freeman has been too inconsistent and could be on the hot seat.

JAY:  Saints Bucs Falcons Panthers-

The Return of the Mack, Payton should right the ship.  I’m going out on a Freeman Branch and choosing the Bucs.  I like the revamped secondary, and I think there is enough muscles in the hamster to protect Freeman.  I think Ryan finishes the season with that terrible right side of line and that schedule is brutal.  Panthers will be 8-8 again and realize tha OC Mike Shula is gawd awful.

CR:  Atlanta Saints Tampa Carolina-

I predict another good year for Matty Ice, but the Falcons defense worries me.  People are hyping up these Saints like they revived themselves; good luck with that 3-4 defense.  Hopefully the name “Revis Island” would stick because somebody needs to throw Freeman a life jacket or something.  Freeman needs to swim not sink.  Then you have the sequel “The Crying Game 2” staring Cam Newton.

NFC West

BP:  49ers Seahawks Rams Cards-

49ers and Seahawks are the class of the NFC easy locks for playoffs.  A consistent Bradford would have the Rams in the hunt, and Bruce Arians will realize how special Andrew Luck really is #PalmerAintLuck #PalmerAintEvenLucky #WeDoRememberTheCardsOLine…Right.

JAY:  Seahawks 49ers Rams Cards-

Seahawks and 49ers will finish with same record, but those damn Rams will beat the 49ers so the Hawks will have a better division record.  Also I think midway through the season Kaepernick gets exposed until Harbaugh rights the ship for the playoffs.  Rams are going to be tough for EVERYBODY!  Cards will have their moments, but QB play will still haunt them.

CR:  Seahwaks 49ers Cards Rams-

Call this division the Wild Wild West, but don’t have that Will Smith song in your head, more like Kool Moe Dee if your ole’ school.  With this division I have Seattle leading the way followed by San Fran who also will make the playoffs.  Then Arizona then St. Louis. Don’t sleep on Arizona or St. Louis because they might be a force but I don’t see them in the playoffs.

PLAYOFFS

BPWild Card–  Falcons over Cowboys  Seahawks over Bears

In the playoffs it’s about which QB makes the fewer mistakes as Ryan and Wilson takeout Romo and Cutler.
BPDivisional Rd–  49ers over Falcons, Saints over Seahawks

49ers O to strong for the Falcons, while the playoff atmosphere in the Superdome is to much for the Seahawks
BPNFC Championship–  Saints over 49ers

Saints outscore 49ers as Kaepernick makes the one mistake in the game that Alex Smith wouldn’t have while driving 49ers down the field to win the game

JAYWildcard– Lions over Bucs  49ers over Washington

MegaTron will show the world how he got his name ala Fitz in 2008.  RG Thriller will push the 49ers Defense to the limit, but Washington will let Gore run wild.

JAYDivisional Rd–  49ers over Seahawks Saints over Lions

Talk about total opposite games.  The Physical beat up of Seahawks and 49ers, and the high powered Offense of Saints and Lions.  I’m taking the 49ers shutting the Seahawks up and stealing a win with a controversial call, by a ref, silencing the 12th Man.  I trust Brees, I don’t trust Stafford, and a key mistake late will ruin the Lions.

JAYNFC Championship–  49ers over Saints

This is vindication because the 49ers lost the Super Bowl here last year.  Coming back to the scene of the crime is a cleansing effect to take it back to the Super Bowl in NY!  Also Harbaugh has Payton’s number right now.
CRWild Card–  Detroit over Nfc East team Seattle over San Fran

Offense to strong in Detroit, but I’m still not sold on MegaFluke.  Last year I picked Seattle to win it all. People thought I was crazy but once they started looking like title contenders then it seemed like I knew what I was talking about.  This year they take care of the defending NFC champs.

CRDivisional Rd–  Seattle over Green Bay Atlanta over Detroit

You know I’m riding Seattle all the way.  Seattle shows that the “Fail Mary” was a fluke but the Seahawks are real.  ATL will rise up and handle Detroit, and the lack of discipline will rear its head in this game.

CRNFC Championship–  Seattle over Atlanta

The Dirty Birds will lose another heartbreaker in the GA Dome.  While the Seahawks right the ship and mistakes of last years Demons.
