It is opt out season and all that ESPN is spouting about is where LBJ and Melo will land.  Most think the King will return to the paradise we call South Beach (and if you have ever seen a Pitbull video who can blame him), and ME-lo is looking to be lifted and landing in the Windy City, Chi-town!  All I hear is that both want more weapons and a place to win more rings or A ring.  When I hear this I think to myself why not the Washington Wizards?  I know I’m a homer, but now I will make an argument for why The King and Melo should seriously consider D.C. their new home:

1.  Young Talent

The Wizards have a backcourt that can become one of the greatest in the league for a few years.  John Wall and Bradley Beal are up and comers, and they could benefit from having a legitimate #1 option in the offense.  The Wizards are one of the youngest teams in the league so these guys will be around for a while and the team can grow with the eventual aging superstars.

2.  The team compliments your weaknesses

When you look at the Knicks and the Heat, rebounding and down low scoring was an issue for both, thus morphing LBJ and Melo into post up players, and having to become better at rebounding to help their respective teams.  Well if the Wiz resign Gortat and with NeNe already down there, they have size, rebounding, and scoring.  Also both of these big men can shoot the 12-15 footer.

The team weakness in the playoffs was lack of composure and no go to scorer down the stretch.  Add Melo or LeBron, problem solved.

The Heat struggled with Point guard play, enter Mr. Dougie/NaeNae Dance John Wall. They also have a wily veteran coming off the bench in Andre Miller to help too.

3.  The Bench/Depth is not San Antonio good, but they are not bad either

As I mentioned above you have Miller for leadership and veteran sensibility, but you have a young energy guy in Martell Webster as the back up SG.  I figure to get either one of these superstars we wouldn’t be resigning Ariza, but you would have  youth at the back up SF in Otto Porter Jr (who is a bust so far), Chris Singleton, and Glen Rice Jr. You then look at Old Man Drew Gooden, Al Harrington, and the younger Trevor Booker at the back up PF with Kevin Serephin in the back up C position.  Again great Depth and granted these guys would look a lot better with a Melo or LBJ on the court.

4.  The City

Growing up in D.C. (called “Chocolate City” when I lived there, or the “Gun Murder Capital”) it’s a beautiful city.  Everyone knows about the sights and history there, but it is not far off from being a legitimate major market.  Especially if one of the superstars were to grace the city and play there.  The D.C. market is as competitive as the Miami market, naturally D.C. can’t touch NY, but those stars would bring business and marketers there.  We just witnessed the RGIII craze.  Imagine the The King heading to D.C., LBJ would be come the Mayor and the President in the same year.  Imagine Melo coming here with his roots in Baltimore and not snitching.  Also his wife’s reality show would have to be filmed in D.C. bringing more awesome to the city.

Also there are very little to no sports demons of the past for them to battle in D.C.  When it comes to Basketball it is Wes Unseld, and that is it.  In Miami LBJ will always be held to D-Wade and Pat Riley’s popularity.  In NY Melo has tons of demons in the Basketball Mecca!  Washington D.C. could be the house they built, ala MJ and Chicago.

5.  You can do something Michael Jordan could not

You can accomplish something that the great Michael Jordan could not…  MAKE WASHINGTON D.C. A WINNER.  Now I know MJ was old and the air was out of the Jumpman, and he was more of a Ground man.  But MJ suited up and he couldn’t lead the Wizards to the playoffs, let alone sniff a Championship.  LeBron, you can claim a victory in a Jordan failure.  How awesome would that be?  Melo would begin to rewrite the books about his legacy with a Championship, but he can also claim that which “His Airness” could not.  That allure alone should push King James here, and that double win for Melo’s legacy should be tempting.

All I’m saying is that the Washington Wizards should be on these Superstars radar and sadly enough they probably are not.  So if everyone in D.C. or everyone that loves the Wizards could share this and build up a ground swell that maybe will reach one of these superstars we may get my wish, and eventually get all of D.C.’s wish and that is to win the NBA Championship!

Guess who’s back!
“EL Capitain” the Captain Derek Jeter leader of the Bronx Bombers here to make everything right in the Yankee World right, right,… wrong and unfair.  I know Jeter hit the first pitch he saw for a Home Run on Sunday and the Yanks eventually won the game.  Let’s be realistic Jeter’s 39 and he’s missed 103 games already this is not the Jeter of old, but just an old Jeter.  With Granderson out, Teixeria out, Arod out and with the Yanks 7.5 games out of 1st place there’s only one thing Jeter can do right, Holla at Ryan Braun (PEDs).  I’m not saying it can’t be done (who am I to judge a guy with 5Chainz!!!! I mean Rings). The fact is Jeter already has his monument coming, the clubhouse needs to receive Jeter’s leadership through his presence and how he handle’s himself in pinstripes it’s up to Cano to carry them to the division championship! Roc-A-fella yall.
Onto my thoughts…
1. The Sanchez-Geno competition seems like a Geno victory unless he falls on his face, judging by what the beat writers and what players are saying.
2. Maclin gone.  Pitta gone.  Soon training camp will be a glorified walk through.
3. Much respect to Donovan McNabb for having his #5 retired. I loved how he played in his early career (juke move on Mark Carrier #27 “Fast forward to 3:20”) and hated how his career ended (39yds passing vs SD w/Min), and Shout Out to Andy Reid knowing he was done.
4. As a NBA fan I like the Luis Sciola to Pacers trade it really helps them down in the paint.
5. As a Knicks fan I hate the Luis Sciola trade to the Pacers… just saying.
6. Aaron Rodgers hates being lied to, so does Greg Jennings apparently.
7. Dang, Kanye that photographer at the airport wasn’t there when you hit your head on that sign.  LoL that’s Cray!
8. Tino Martinez (Marlins hitting coach) snapped on the team after seeing Logan Morrison’s tweet on not being on PEDs for not scoring a run in 37 innings
9. Matty Ice $59mil guaranteed.  Is it SB or bust time?
10. AP may want HGH testing but we know the Seahawks don’t!

The Knicks believe in Peace but are they just chasing headlines?  With the acquisition of the artist formerly known as Ron Artest, the Knickerbockers bring in an enforcer, a tough nosed guy with a Charles Oakley type mentality.  Many believe (myself included) that Metta will help protect Melo from having to guard players like David West and Carlos Boozer.  Yes I know Peace is a wing player, but he’s stronger than Melo and who’s gonna punk him out?  Throw a beer on him and see how quick he turns back into Ron Ron.  The question is this move necessary?  The Knicks need a big man that can rebound, defend and backup Chandler and although I like the move.  If not for what Brooklyn has been doing this offseason would the move have been made?  At the end of the day on paper the Knicks are still the 5th best team in the east (Heat, Pacers, Bulls, and Nets), but having three defensive minded players (Tyson, Shump, and Peace) doesn’t hurt.

Onto my thoughts….

1. Pouncey brother’s with a “FREE HERNANDEZ” hat… Really!!!!
2. Tim Lincecum 148 pitches on a no-hitter congrats, but that joker won’t pitch again for a month.
3. Chris Davis 37home runs at the break.  Oh yeah please believe more tests are coming.
4. So everyone pushes for the #voteforFreddie campaign and now he isn’t playing because he jammed his thumb?  C’mon Son, should have went with Puig.
5. I like Carson Palmer as a sleeper in fantasy football this year he’s playing with the best receiver and offensive coach he’s ever had.
6. Derrick Rose is officially now 100%.  In July… Really!!!!  C’mon Son.
7. Is it me or does it seem like some players in the NBA Summer league look like they never played the game before.
8. Jay-z line of the week “I brought sand to the beach cuz my beach is better” classic Jay.  And once again Jay-Z doesn’t need the advertising from me.
9. George Zimmerman found not guilty.  Really, so in Florida you can shoot an unarmed black kid and get away with it?  Next you will tell me that Casey Anthony can have/get another kid…  Wait, you got to be kidding me, smh
10. Quote of the week from @hubbuchNYP “Aaron Hernandez’s lawyers just filed a motion to have his trial moved to Sanford, FL”

Sorry for the delay still upset about my Knicks losing so I raised the prices in the Boom Boom Room and U.O.E.N.O it (Shout out to Rocko).  Alright time to make the same moves in a calendar year as Jamie Foxx from a slave named D’jango to the President (White House Down).

While looking at the Final Four teams left in the NBA Playoffs Indiana, Memphis, Miami, and  San Antonio I realized two things; there’s not one team from a major market.  No NY, LA, CHI, BOS, or DALL, even though there’s no place like Miami right Pitbull.  Furthermore there’s not much star power besides LBJ and Wade (No Melo, Kobe, Durant, Rose, Dirk, CP3) and yes I know Duncan aka Timmy has 4 rings and is a sure fired Hall of Famer but having one commercial where him and Steve Nash are dribbling basketballs doesn’t make you an appealing superstar.  However, the point I’m making is playing with grit, toughness, and togetherness (Grizzlies, Pacers, and Spurs) is the new way to be successful in the NBA and will the league be okay with that?  I guess the ratings will determine how the league feels about it.

Onto my thoughts…
1. Damn blaming Melo, Chandler, and JR the reasons why the Knicks lost the series.
2. Forget the flagrant foul the way Tony Allen was rolling on the floor in game 2 I thought he got shot.
3. Memo to all sports franchises when you think you have it bad, look at the Astros!
4. Go ahead and start those Dwight Howard to the Rockets rumors.
5.Can we please start CP3 to the Knicks rumors (wishful thinking on my part)
6. I gotta hand it to Miguel to sing, dance, and do a WWE move is impressive. The way he kicked one girl in the head and did a Hulk Hogan leg drop on the other and still be composed enough to still sing mad props… right Chris Brown (who had an awful performance at the billboard).
7.  Charles Woodson goes full circle, by going back to Oakland, critics are wondering why, well let me give you 4.3mil reasons.
8. I’d like to see RGIII buy some game tickets for those fans that bought him gifts on his registry, instead of sending out pics of him posing on gift boxes (yeah I’m hating)
9. NY Rangers down 3-0 can they make the comeback?  Doesn’t matter because the Penguins will probably win the Cup anyway.
10. So every time Dan Gilbert puts his son on stage, Stern gives Cavs the 1st pick.  After all MJ did for the league he can’t give the Bobcats/Hornets just one? I’m just saying (shout out to JD)

These are just my thoughts right or wrong its how I’m feeling at the time.  Tell me how you feel or what you think on twitter @bprunsportsmenm

It’s going down tonight, shots are going down, champagne bottles are popping. I got my side chick, my main chick, and my main girl ain’t feeling me no more. It’s like the 1st round of the draft all gold everything.

The draft where franchises can improve there roster or change the direction of there roster. Now onto my Jets, yall know I rep gang green (can’t make that up) and I would love to bash them here. However, with a new GM (John Idzik) he deserves the right to be able to pick his own guy and obviously he thought wrong by thinking there would be any kind of trade value for Tim Tebow.  So, in deciding to get rid of a Saint named Tebow for a ninja named Geno; Idzik decided to eliminate the circus atmosphere and bring in someone to beat out Sanchez not in popularity but on the damn field.

The question is can Geno start from day 1?  I don’t think so, in college he did show the ability to make mediocre talent better, last I saw he had some good receivers at WVU; if you don’t believe me ask the Rams (they drafted T.Austin and S.Bailey respectively).  In Stephen Hill, Jeremy Kerley, and Santonio Holmes there’s good but not elite talent. I know Aaron Rodgers could make these WR’s a lot better but can Geno?  Stay tuned, gut feeling Garrard starts season until Geno is ready, Sanchez will be cut sign somewhere else and become really good, these things always happen to the Jets.
Onto my thoughts:
1. I am going to go ahead and get this out the way, people are praising Jason Collins for being brave and bold and I get that to each is own, but if I’m a seven footer I’m trying to play like Wilt Chamberlain off the court!  Yeah I said it!
2. Yeah my Knicks lost Game 4 that’s cool but Jason Terry with his Celtics wont comeback to Boston.  Like Kenny Smith said and I quote “his name is Jason Eugene Terry he’s a JET by name not by game” (Editors Note: Seems like Big Play is hating)
3. Steph Curry is a beast; I call him Quick Draw Mcgraw, he is like his pops with handles and athleticism
4. James Harden needs a stylist them crazy ass shirts ain’t cool man “Throw The Flag”
5. Nate “The Great” was amazing game 4, still don’t want his ass back on my Knicks though
6. I have never seen a white man rock a kangol like Bruce Arians (Cards coach), he got Sam Jackson swag!
7. I liked what the Chargers did during the draft from a value standpoint getting (Fluker 1st, Te’o 2nd and Allen 3rd) I really liked the Allen pick wanted my Jets to take him in the 3rd
8. Why the hell was R.G.III jumping for them folks at the Skins draft party like one of the Mandingo’s in Django? Black America we see why Rob Parker wondered what he wondered
9. Jeremy Lin couldn’t finish Game 3 or play Game 4 because his chest was only 85%.  Have fun paying him that $15mil in the 3rd yr of his deal, they better hope Dwight Howard goes there
10. Speaking of D12, nothing say bitch-ass-ness like the way he played in Game 4 an elimination game unbelievable
*Bonus* So hold up, all that mess this dude Chael Sonnen was talking about Jim “Bones” Jones. He was like Samuel L Jackson in “Great White Hype”, now I didn’t think he was going to win but at least go past the 1st rd.  How you get your ass whooped so bad by a joker with a broke toe? Damn shame

 Just my Thoughts,

@bprunsportsmenm

Welcome to the Boom Boom Room, sit back relax, grab yourself a drink, (non-alcohol depending on what time of the day it is) and enjoy the show.

So here’s how I feel about Kobe calling out Dwight Howard; I UNDERSTAND IT.  Howard hasn’t played with a sense of urgency all season and clearly doesn’t know what’s on the line playing in LA.  Los Angeles is a big market and an organization that is known for championships.  When your team is stacked with a Nash, Mamba (Kobe), Gasol, and World Peace fans expect rings.  However, you can’t question a guy’s injury (some people’s pain threshold is stronger than others), or inability to play through it.  That is where Kobe was wrong in his quote.  I personally think that a Josh Smith and Ivan Johnson for Howard makes sense for both teams, lowered expectations for Howard in regards to winning a ring and Josh would be on a team that would appreciate his talents.

Onto my thoughts

  1. Throw the Flag! Damn Dwight now your daddy speaking for you, man up son.
  2. Did Antwan Jamison say that Jordan at 50 could average double digits? “Ninja Please, If you don’t Stop Now” (in my best R. Kelly singing voice)
  3. Love @MikeHillESPN’s comment on LBJ, “LeBron has become like NEO when he figured out the Matrix.  Everything around him appears in slow motion while he dominates” true statement.
  4. John Giannone (Hockey Reporter) is the toughest sideline reporter in sports.  Puck to the face still kept working.  Let me see you do that Craig Saeger while rocking a loud ass suit.
  5. Inside the NBA is the greatest sports show out there period.
  6. As a Knicks fan, an Iman Shumpert to Suns deal makes no damn sense.
  7. I like Miami (The U) to make the Final Four.  And maybe Ray Lewis will get God on their side to win it all.
  8. Indiana what kind of defense was that at the end against Illinois?  Looked like everyone went to sleep, and wasn’t smart enough to fall asleep in front of the basket.
  9. Melo is a BEAST!  But the haters will say he’s a selfish and a chucker #Melo4MVP
  10. So if the 49ers lose in the playoffs next year, will Kaepernick get even more tats?  Unbelievable

Make sure you tip your bartenders, servers, and remember these are just my thoughts right or wrong this is how I’m feeling at the time, so tell me what you think.

Knicks 5-0

THE NEW YORK KNICKERBOCKERS ARE OFF TO A 5-0 START, BUT THEY DON’T HAVE PARADES DOWN THE CANYON OF HEROES (where NYC teams celebrate with fans) in November.  Although, it maybe to early to tell if they can even make it to the Finals; history shows that the last 2 times the Knicks started out 5-0 they’ve made it there (’70 and ’94). Under Mike Woodson (Woody as the players call him), these Knicks have gone back to there roots and to what the city is about.  Being tough and physical which results to playing great D.

How did this change happen?  From Mike Antoni’s(no D) high octane uptempo 7 seconds or less offense, without a thought toward Defense (see how that works out for you Lakers).  To now holding opponents to 90 points or less a game and being the 2nd highest scoring team in the league?  Easy answer veteran leadership helps.

The Knicks went out and acquired Felton, Kidd, Thomas, Camby, Wallace and Brewer.  The play of Felton and Kidd starting on the court together helps with ball movement.  With a bench that can boast being 10 men deep with scorers. When Shumpert (best on and off ball defender) returns the D will be even better perhaps like the Pistons unit, that Woody won a ring with in ’03-’04 season.

The story here is Carmelo Anthony, a great scorer that would always think about Defense, but would never play it (unless against LeBron), has officially bought in.  He’s in great shape (thank you Olympics) and is allowing Woody to coach him. Melo’s play will force Amare Stoudmire aka S.T.A.T., Standing Tall And Talented, to the bench to ball out with the 2nd  unit.  A 2nd unit that consist of Camby, Novak, and an extremely controlled J.R. Smith

The Knicks are built to beat the Heat, but doing it in a 7 game series is something else; however, by being dominant at home and above .500 on the road (beating the teams your suppose to beat). So before we start chanting “Long Live the King”, Melo may have his ring.

Raymond
