As the Denver Broncos start the real season this weekend (We know the regular season means nothing to Peyton) the Broncos and Peyton are going for a mythical journey to capture the franchises 3rd championship.  So naturally all eyes are on the hero #18.  The Broncos changed their future from the disciple (Tebow) to one of the football gods in Peyton Manning.  Leading me to say out loud What Would Peyton Do?

The Future Hall of Famer has been here before plenty of times actually, with a 9-11 playoff record including 8 one and done.  Peyton has a chance to conquer some demons, gods, and the unexpected so to speak.  First challenge the Demon, the power of the SUPER BOLO TIE CHARGERS.  A lot of analysis are picking the Chargers to win this game.  The Chargers are a current division foe that has eliminated Peyton several times (0-2 vs. Chargers in playoffs) while with the Colts.  The Chargers are hot and facing Denver coming off a bye, sounds like the Ravens of last year.

Second the other god, with a victory Peyton will play his greatest foe, Football’s greatest god Tom Brady, and the Patriots.  We all know of the history of these two competitors.  We also know Brady’s 3 rings to Peyton’s 1, or that Peyton is 1-2 vs. the Patriots in the playoffs.  If Peyton can find the Herculean strength to conquer 2 of his biggest adversaries the third one is the greatest of all.

Final adversary the Elements, and the Unexpected.  By elements I mean COLD WINDY WEATHER, and the unexpected NFC opponent.  The Super Bowl is in NY/NJ in the cold weather.  Peyton has played some of his worse games in cold weather (8-13 in games with temperature under 40 at kick off).  Since Peyton has returned from neck surgery it is noticeable that Peyton is uncomfortable in the cold weather or rather windy cold games.  Not to mention the three teams left in the NFC are huge defensive teams (Legion of Boom Seahawks, 49ers, and Panthers) and none of them seem to have Rex Grossman as their starting Quarterback.

Peyton has a huge football world to conquer.  Is it fair to say that a loss vs. the Chargers, Patriots, or the NFC representative would tarnish Peyton’s legacy?  So I say out loud again WHAT WOULD PEYTON DO?  Or should I say WHAT SHOULD PEYTON DO?  Only answer is Ascend and WIN!

P.S.  UNSPORTSMENMIC is BACK!

Everybody in the NFL has been making a big fuss over the NFL coming out and saying if no one volunteers for “Hard Knocks” the league will pick a team.  Honestly I think that is a terrific idea!  As much as we (not me I love him) hate on Roger Goodell, he always seems to be on the right path.  I think he should eliminate volunteers and choose the team every year.

First off everyone needs to know what qualifies or disqualifies you from being on “Hard Knocks”:

1.  You have to missed the playoffs at least two weeks in a row to be on the show.

2.  If you have participated in “Hard Knocks” in the last 10 years you are no longer eligible

3.  Or if you just got a new coach you can’t participate.

Now that you have the rules down, I’m all for the choosing of the team without volunteers, why you ask?  Imagine when/if the Eagles don’t make the playoffs next year Goodell should choose the Eagles.  This way we can see all this “Speed Read” Offense.  We can see this new way of training, conditioning, and eating that keeps his team “FRESH”.  We get to see an aging Mike Vick try to hang out to whatever is left.  Compelling right?  Not to mention other characters like Riley “I will call you a Ninja” Cooper.

How about in the near future when Brady is starting to become washed up and the Patriots happen to miss the playoffs for two years, we get to see the Sith Lord himself, Bill Belichick, operate and work hard to build one more winning team for Brady to lead.  We get to see an old Ben Kenobi-type Brady still weaving his magic.  We can see Brady prepares with the chip still on his shoulder from draft day.  Can you even picture this?  I’m getting excited with the possibilities.

Hell, why stop at choosing the teams, I feel like Goodell should mandate that the Jaguars take Tebow and then make them do “Hard Knocks”.  Can you imagine all the fun it will be to see the acclaimed Terrible Tebow practices.  Also we get to see the Wide Receivers bite their lips, because Tebow is their teammate and he loves God and you never bash a man of faith (unless he touches little boys).

Hopefully you are starting to see the awesomeness of the NFL/Goodell just picking the darn team and letting us enjoy.  Right now if nothing changes (i.e. head coach) with all the dysfunction going on in Tampa Bay, they would be delicious TV.  We might actually see a team revolt.  I can see it now the  team comes out to practice with pitchforks and torches to run Greg Schiano out of town as if he was Frankenstein’s Monster (the name Frankenstein was the Doctor not the Monster).

Earlier in the last season of Hard Knocks  “Cool Reece” wrote about how terrible the show was, but I think the choosing of the team would help make the show exciting again.  You can just choose the biggest trainwreck, most compelling star, or coach out of a bunch of losers.  These are just my thoughts tell me what you think, by leaving a comment or tweeting me @UnSportsmenBigJ.

So while I was watching Peyton Manning, on Monday night, carve up Oakland’s D as if they were Florida International.  I took a look at his numbers so far this season 12tds, 0ints, almost 1,200 yds and a crazy QB rating and thought to myself “man how will Peyton blow it this time”.  If you think it sounds harsh tell me why?  Peyton has made defenses look softer than Charmin and made coverage look weaker than a Chad Pennington hail mary; yet, his playoff record leaves much to be desired at 9-11.  Big Ben and Eli have combined for 4 SB but yet are currently a combined 0-6, and both never seem to perform great in the regular season, which has to make Peyton just throw up sometimes.  So let’s see…  the Broncos go 13-3 or 14-2 and will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs right!  We already know that no starting QB has won a SB with two different teams.  So which scenario that we have seen before dooms Peyton this time:

1.  Weather: Peyton just can’t get a good grip on the ball, which makes him inaccurate, see the Ravens playoff game last year.

2.  Raheem Moore/Defensive Letdown: does what Raheem Moore does and reads a play, or reads a pass as well as Stevie Wonder reads books.

3.  Peyton blames someone: the O-Line on some communication issues (sorry Jeff Saturday), WR running poor or sloppy routes (sorry Reggie Wayne), Game plan was too conservative (Dungy, and Fox).

4.  Bad refereeing:  A few bad calls or no calls disrupt the offense or cost the team the victory (They won’t call holding every play, right Belichick).

Look Peyton is one of the best QB’s I’ve ever seen play the game, and will go down as the Greatest Regular Season QB f All-time.  Peyton is way to good to be so average in the playoffs, so we will sit back and enjoy this great regular season, because we know doom and gloom awaits in the Postseason.

We all have heard of that term the “Patriot Way” but what does that term really mean?  I always thought of how they like to separate themselves from other teams in the league in so called class and sportsmanship.  Yet they had spy gate, they ran around and taunted the Jets after a victory, but got upset when the Jets responded in turn.  Some say the “Patriot Way” is a philosophy of champions or its about everyone doing their job as a team.  I’m starting to see the” Patriots Way” differently, how they cut or not resign players after they get old or maybe even get diabetes (sorry Kyle Love).  Maybe the “Patriots Way” is if  you complain about a check you don’t get a check, ask Wes Welker, because Danny Amendola got his check.  I feel like the “Patriot Way” is like the Sith Rule of Two, one Master (Belicheck) and one Apprentice (Tom Brady).

I could say that the “Patriot Way” is propaganda pushed by the Empire, with Belicheck being Palpatine and Tom Brady being Darth Vader.  The “Patriot Way” has always seemed to take troubled players and turn them into heroes in their system, ask Corey Dillon how it felt turning to the Darkside, Randy Moss even saw some glory and career revival.  Now you can’t save them all (Chad Johnson and Albert Haynesworth), but they do a great job of turning troubled players against the world.  As Palpatine would say it “let the hate flow through you”. We can all agree that as long as Belcheck and Brady are at the helm the “Patriot Way” will also stand for playing smart, being disciplined and everyone competing at their best.  Regardless what happens they always seem to overcome the odds, hell Vader.. I mean Brady got hurt and they still managed to have a winning season.  How long can this last though?

Are we starting to see the fall of the iron clad “Patriot Way”, because it’s starting to feel like a New Hope in the NFL, where the rebels (the rest of the league), maybe catching up or at least finding the one weakness in the Death Star (which was a glaring weakness, come on space design has to be better than that).  Obviously the force is not with Gronk because he can’t stay healthy.  The owner can’t keep up with his own damn ring. Lets not talk about Aaron Hernandez, because he is about to be in a heap of trouble.  Maybe just maybe with the recent signing of Tim Tebow, we are seeing a change to a new apprentice?  Palpatine did always want Luke Skywalker to join the Empire.  How do you transition from one Golden Boy?  You get another Golden Boy.  Tebow might cause more of a media frenzy for the upcoming season, but that’s if they put him on the field. I think it would be a good thing for Tebow, and if he is not the next apprentice he can at least be General Grievous.  So really what is the Patriot Way?  Seems like the term has changed since it was first penned.  We know this for certain, as long as the Sith Two reign at the top of the Galaxy, or NFL, we will be under their Rule!
