AFC NFL Predictions

Consensus is that the AFC is the weaker of the leagues, and that may be true, but when it come down to one game for all the Chips and Dips anything can happen.  So here is the UnSportsMenMic Crew predictions for the AFC.

AFC East

BP: Patriots Jets Dolphins Bills-

As long as #12 is at QB, the division will go by way of New England.  Rex’s scheme don’t lie, Jets will be better than you think, especially if QB’s limit turnovers.  Spending money don’t get you rings Miami and Buffalo is on the rise but not there yet.

Jay:  Patriots Bills Dolphins Jets-

I think the Pats will not be dominate but the division is not tough.  The Bills I think will come along late when EJ Manuel gets his bumps.  Don’t believe the Dolphins to many questions, QB? WR? RB? Pass Rush?  Sorry BP, but Jets are a dumpster fire, hell I’m considering starting Freeman in fantasy on them.

CR:  Patriots Dolphins Bills Jets-

Of course New England always find a way to win.  Miami might be that boring team you don’t want to see on Monday night, the Bills might do something when EJ Manuel gets back.  The Jets can’t figure out who their Quarterback is (shout out to Mr. Miller).  The division will be dominated by the Patriots.

AFC North

BP:  Steelers Ravens Browns Bengals

Tomlin will have the Steelers ready; missing the playoffs 2yrs in a row ain’t happening.  The champs will be in the hunt, but you can’t always replace leadership with just talent alone.  Browns will be competitive and wouldn’t shock me if there in the hunt.  The Bengels’ will take a step back, and learn the meaning of Hard Knocks.

Jay:  Bengals Steelers Ravens Browns

Bengals should win this Division FINALLY! If they can’t then they wont for another 10 years.  Steelers rebound especially with Hailey and Big Ben working together.  Ravens only a slight tumble as Flacco feels the weight and pressure of being the man (no Ray Ray to deflect attention) and the Browns will compete their butts off but they are just not there yet.

CR:  Ravens Bengals Browns Steelers

I think Joe Flacco might light it up for the Ravens. I believe in their vertical game with Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones. One of my next articles is going to be titled “Bombs over Baghdad or Bombs over B-more”.  Cincinnati will make the playoffs and probably lose the first round.  Browns will be Browns, and Pittsburgh might be considering a new head coach after another disappointing  season without making the playoffs.

AFC South

BP:  Texans Titans Colts Jaguars
This has to be the year for the Texans it’s now or never a healthy Cushing and Super Bowl experience of Ed Reed will get them over the hump.  The Johnson and Greene combination will take pressure off Locker by slowing down the game for him; hey it helped Sanchez.  No sophomore slump for Luck but his Defense will fail him and Jacksonville is just Jacksonville.

Jay:  Texans Colts Titans Jaguars

I don’t like the Texans make up, just feel like they fold under pressure and have so much talent, but the division can’t put up a fight.  The Colts are the Andrew Luck show, and I’m sorry I think Luck doesn’t regress, but wont pull as many last second wins as last year.  Locker and Gabbert, the cancer of both Franchises’.

CR:  Texans Colts Titans Jaguars

I Have Houston leading the division followed by Indy, Tennessee, and Jacksonville. Houston will win second seed while the other teams will be sitting at home during the playoffs (nothing new for J-ville). I’m wit Jay on this one, I don’t believe Indy will make all those come backs like last year, now they are the hunted.

AFC West

BP:  Broncos Chiefs Chargers Raiders
The name Peyton Manning is good enough for 10 wins alone so expect Denver to win 12-13 which is more than enough to win the West.  KC will be in the hunt for a playoff berth.  SD and Oak may need a year or two to compete on a playoff level.

Jay:  Broncos Chiefs Chargers Raiders

Old man Manning is still the best regular season QB to ever play the game.  No one can touch him in the regular season, and while the Chiefs will be much improved they wont dethrone the Broncos.  Chargers are a straight dumpster fire, Thank You Norv Turner.  Oakland, should just hope and pray Run DMC can play a whole season, that will be their Super Bowl.

CR:  Broncos Chiefs Raiders Chargers

I can strongly see Denver going 14-2, Kansas City is gonna be the sleeper team that gets hot. If Jamal Charles stay healthy  he would be key. I’m thinking Brian Westbrook numbers for Charles.  Who cares about Chargers and Raiders, but we know we will get another boring Thursday Night Football game between the two.

Playoffs

CR:  I want to go first here; Call me Mr. Cleo or some kin to Miss Cleo the physic because I have some bold predictions for ya. Call me crazy or I don’t know what I’m talking about, but everyone said the same thing to me last year when I was driving the Seahawk fan bus.  I call it THE RETURN OF ANDY REID!  Yes you read it here first. The Kansas City Chiefs are going to the Super Bowl!  This is how they get there.

CRWild Card– Ravens over Patriots Kansas City over Cincinnati

We know the Ravens can beat them and Flacco turns into a different QB in the Playoffs.  Also I think the wheels are starting to fall off of the Brady Wagon.  Too Much Andy Reid and Charles for Cincy to keep up, this could spell the end of Marvin Lewis.

CR: Divisional Rd– Kansas City over Houston Denver over Ravens

Alex Smith playing mistake free will force the Texans Offense to produce which, will produce turnovers that the Chiefs will capitalize on to win.  Peyton Manning’s revenge, and it will be sweet, I expect a rout and that Manning will exercise the demons at least for one game.

CR: AFC Championship–  Kansas City over Denver

I figure the Broncos will beat the Chiefs twice in the regular season and you know how hard it is to beat a team three times in one season.  On a side note I think Kansas City will take it because who has more too prove than Alex Smith and Andy Reid?  Has Andy Reid ever had an accurate Quarterback?  With Alex Smith running the west coast offense I think its gonna be huge for the Chiefs.  We all know how Reid coaches his Quarterbacks. If Vick can somewhat do it, than why not Alex?

BP: Wild Card– Steelers over Jets, Texans over Ravens

Big Ben makes the plays that the Jets QB’s can’t.  This game will be a defensive struggle.  Ed Reed picks off Flacco to seal the win for Houston (Where is Kendrick Lamar when I need him “That sounds like Poetic Justice”)

BPDivisional Rd– Patriots over Steelers, Texans over Broncos

Tom Terrific continues to own the Steelers, while a windy day in Denver raises questions about Archie’s…  I mean Peyton’s decision to sign in Denver.

BPAFC Championship– Texans over Patriots

Texans get there revenge over the team that has dominated them over the last two postseason and get to the Super Bowl.  Texans just don’t wear dumb ass lettermen jackets this time.

JayWild Card–  Patriots over Ravens Steelers over Bengals

I think the youth of the Ravens will get exposed by the Sith Lord and Apprentice.  Big Ben makes everyone remember why he has 1 1/2 rings (we all know he didn’t do nothing but tackle a guy in the 1st Super Bowl run, so half a ring), and reminds the Bengals that the Steelers still run that division.

JayDivisional Rd– Steelers over Denver Texans over Pats

Steelers give Manning flashbacks to his Colt days with an 1 and done after getting the bye.  Texans get the edge with a Ed Reed and the rookie Hopkins comes up big to beat the Pats.

Jay: AFC Championship– Steelers over Texans

Welcome back to the Super Bowl Mr. Tomlin.  This will be a tight game and I think the Steelers win on last second Field Goal.

Jay:  Then we finally get that 49ers Steelers Super Bowl that never happened.

Super Bowl champs to the toilet bowl champs.  This is the sentiment from a lot of Raven’s fans and NFL Fandom as a whole.  Well not so fast, trust in Ozzie!  Yes, TRUST IN OZZIE NEWSOME.  He is one of the best Football minds in the league, especially when it comes to building a team.  Remember the Ravens we an expansion team…  Well sorta.  Since 1996 he has typically put together a competitive team.  Everyone jumping off the cliff about the Ravens is forgetting some key things like, time, the New NFL, and the division.

Now Ozzie Newsome has been the VP/Football Operations, and GM since 1996.  In that time frame he has 2 Super Bowl rings.  So every 8.5 years he delivers on a Super Bowl, which means the organization trust him and will give him nothing but TIME to build a contender.  If you are not making moves to save your job every year you can take a chance on players and take your time developing talent.  Most coaches, players, and GM’s don’t have that luxury, so every decision Ozzie makes is with a Sniper Rifle, not a hand gun, or should I say he has the bird eye view of his team and future.

Secondly we are forgetting that we are in a “New NFL”, what does that mean?  Dominate defense out the window.  The league is about bend but don’t break mentality now.  Look at the Super Bowl, everyone knew the Niners were a better team, arguably better defense and offense.  Yet the Niners lost, why? The Ravens got touchdowns while the Niners had turnovers or field goals.  The most critical point of the game the Ravens Defense bent, but didn’t break.  Or rather held and didn’t fall (I’m with Jim that was a hold on Crabtree), so why have high paid defensive players?  Pollard, Kruger, Reed, Lewis, and etc, with those players the Ravens ranked 17th in total defense and lets not forget the Giants won a Super Bowl with a terrible defense and faced a Patriots team that was in the bottom two of defense that year.

In this New NFL, its all about offense and more importantly the Quarterback.  Now you hav looked up your QB for the future, and I know everyone thought that Flacco deal was no good or he didn’t earn that money, but just think for a second, who out there is better that the Ravens could get?  NO-BODY!  So you look him up for your future and let’s be honest Flacco numbers are comparable to Eli Manning’s, and Ben Roethlisberger’s numbers and we hold them in higher status, why, because of Super Bowl rings.  Now Flacco has one so now he is worth the money.  Also with this new NFL, the CBA has made it that if you sign a 1st round pick, they can’t, repeat CAN’T renegotiate until the end of their third year.  This means you get younger players that you can develop on a rookie pay scale for 3 years.  Even worse for 2nd round picks where you have to wait 4 years before you can talk contract, sorry Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick.  This all means that you have time to build a team for the future because everyone you drafted now can’t sniff new money until 2016.  Add that on top of Ozzie having time and now locking up his most important offensive weapon, we are starting to equal a smart move to dump the older junk this year.

Lastly if I haven’t sold you on everything else, the most important thing is the AFC North.  There is no real contender, so this was the best time to rebuild.  You have the same old Browns that have an offensive core the Richardson, Gordon, but questions surrounding Weeden.  So the Browns may not be a contender, then you look at the Steelers that are basically doing the same thing the Ravens are doing.  The Steelers are trying to get young in a hurry to compete.  Just like Ozzie, Tomlin (Steelers have only had 3 Head Coaches in their franchise history) has time and an organization that stands behind their people.  So basically your greatest rival is occupying the same space you are, you went and grabbed a ring while they were rebuilding and now your rebuilding so when they are back you will be back.  Then you have the Bengals, who have a young core, have playoff experience and are looking to take the next step next year.  You may have to concede the division to them this year, because they are a young team that has taken bumps and now are ready to go, basically what you are looking to be 2 seasons from now.  So let them win the division for the next year or two, and then the Ravens can return to contend.

So Raven fans and the NFL slow down on counting the Ravens out or not realizing the bigger picture; Ozzie Newsome is setting this team and franchise up with future success.  We also have no guarantee that the Ravens won’t be good, you still have a good Ray Rice, an amazing Torrey Smith, consistent Dennis Pitta, you added Elvis Dumervil to go along with Terrell Suggs.  The Ravens drafted a safety in Matt Elam that everyone was high on to replace Ed Reed, Arthur Brown that might be a 2nd round steal ala Navarro Bowmen for 49ers, Brandon Williams has a great motor just needs to refine his technique, and John Simon is a rare talent that needs to better work against the run.  Also if Ozzie let Anquan Bolden go he must have a lot of trust or saw a ton of potential in Tandon Doss who didn’t play a down last year because of a sports hernia.  So trust in Ozzie Newsome and doubt him “Nevermore!”
