In playoff games it helps to have a coach with emotion and competitive fire.  You need this to make your team believe that when the chips are down; that they can comeback from any deficit. However, you can’t be a dumb ass either.

Pete Carroll has garnered so much praise this year, but just like Big J has said he lacks attention to detail.  That lack of attention got him exposed in the Georgia Dome.

  • Rule #1 You don’t chase points; especially as a visiting team! With his team in the red zone trailing 13-0 in the 1st half, once again IN THE 1ST HALF. Pete wouldn’t settle for the easy field goal he wanted a td, and went for it on 4th down.
  • Rule #2 Ride the Horse(s) that got you there: So you go for it, wrong move, but fine, Offensive Coordinator let’s go with the full back dive up the 4 hole.  Let’s not give it to the guy named BEAST MODE, or the Silky Smooth Russell Wilson, you give it to Michael Robinson.
  • Rule #3 You have to manage the CLOCK! Most would learn there lesson from rule #1, but shit not Pete.  You mismanage your timeouts, but you are able to drive down the field, and in a situation where a coach would tell their young QB “you can’t take a sack here”.  The Seahawks take a sack and are unable to put points on the board.
  • Rule #4 Don’t go outside of who you are.  Matt Ryan was 7-7 on blitzes that game.  The Seahawks are not a blitzing unit; they get pressure from their front 4 or 5.  Now I know they lost Chris Clemons, but you are doing something that your team is unfamiliar with and it showed in the holes in the secondary.
  • Rule #5 NFL STOP ICING KICKERS FOR KICKS OVER 35 yards.  A 49 yard Field Goal is chilling enough.  Giving a kicker let alone a GREAT kicker two chances at a kick is just STUPID.  If it is a chip shot yes ice them and make them think about doing it twice, better your odds of them missing easy kicks, but hard kicks are just that hard kick.  Two chances makes the kick a little less intimidating.

Pete Carroll coach of the Seattle Seahawks said that he was confident that his team would be able to battle back from down 20-0, but he coached early like he was terrified, and coached late like he was trying NOT to LOSE!  Pete Carroll has the attention to detail of a gorilla; hopefully the potential of Russell Wilson can overcome the bad situations Pete Carroll will put him and the team in, in future playoff games #rah rah can’t beat details.
