When you get SUGAR how long can it last?  In his 17th season as inside/middle linebacker, Ray “Sugar” (which his teammates call him) Lewis joins rare company as one of only three linebackers to play into his 17th year.  Lewis joins the likes of Clay Matthews Jr., who played 19 seasons, and the late great (until he played 2 seasons with my rival Patriots) Junior Seau, played 20 seasons.

Although, he is still playing at a consistent level, the defense is no longer as dominant as in years past. The Super Bowl winning Ravens that gave up only 165 points the entire season compared to last year’s team which gave up 266 pts. With the loss of “T-Sizzle” Terrell Suggs (#LeaderOfBallSoHardUniversity) and with Ed Reed aging, Lewis is faced with depending on his offense to lead him to a championship.

There is no denying Lewis’ impact to the Ravens. He’s a man that can get his teammates to run through a wall better than any coach in the league, can fire up fans just by picking up the grass before he does his dance. However, there are four things in sports that are undefeated, Retirement, Taxes, the Newssy (the reproductive part of a woman), and Father Time. So how much Sugar does Ray have left in the tank (no homo)?

The numbers show if Ray Lewis is not the best inside linebacker alive he’s in the top 5. Can Ray Lewis motivate his offense to play with the will (Joe Flacco) and determination (Ray Rice) that he has?  We will find out February in New Orleans. Sugar Ray loves to IMPACT people’s lives.
